Teaching to follows

On November 20th Bug’s Question of the Day was “As a follow I get most out of classes and workshops when it is explicitly explained what skill or concept I should be focusing on during each exercise/move figure. What skills or concepts would you consider to be important for follows to be working on? If there were a list of the top ten skills for follows what would it include?”

The interesting thing was that there was a pretty clear split between people who said concrete things and people who listed abstract ideals. My reading of this question makes me think that this is a person who is tired of hearing abstractions. Sometimes it is necessary to be told bluntly “Slow down, you’re rushing your lead” rather than visualizations and analogies.
